The
government is trying to pass a law where all illegal immigrants can get a
chance to become a citizen and a get a green card. Before they could have this
chance, the bill has to be passed by Congress and signed by the president. In
order to get a green card an immigrant have to have been in the U.S. before
January 1, 2007. Through the process the government will give the immigrant a fine. The head of the house will pay $1000 and for
every other person $500. The immigrant will be given one year to pay all the
money. Another part of the plan is that
an immigrant can apply for citizenship within 8 years. In order to apply, an
immigrant has to prove that they are learning English and that they are
working. Border security will also increase. There will be more guards and devices
that will help protect the border. Also, fines will be given to employers who
hire illegal immigrants. There will be better technology to prevent false use
of social security numbers. The government is trying to help illegal immigrants but also stop more immigrants from coming to the U.S. illegally.
