My name is Jo’Nee, and I’m from Washington D.C.  I attended Kenilworth Elementary School and then I transferred to the Art’s and Technology Academy Public Charter School in the year 2000 through 2005. That’s when I graduated from the 6th Grade.  In elementary school, it was different to me because, my work in the 1st grade through 4th grade was easy, but as I was moving on to the 5th and 6th grade the work just got harder and harder. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to graduate, but I stayed focused in my classes and studied from day to night.  I overcame all the obstacles because, I knew that I was going to succeed if I studied and stayed focused in class, and that’s all it took.

The change in my environment affected me because when my mom and I moved to our new home in my neighborhood there were a lot of children.  I wanted to be apart of them but I was afraid they would be mean to me and would not be my friend.  But sooner or later I introduced myself to them and we all became friends and played together peacefully.  I felt very good because I didn’t want to be alone in my new neighborhood walking around not knowing someone.

I faced having to meet new faces, trying to avoid getting in fights and arguments.  But, on the other hand I had to be careful about the things I would say because I wouldn’t want them to do me the same way.  But, what I did to overcome all of that was to introduce myself first.  I didn’t have to do that, but I thought it would be a good idea, because that was the type of person I was.  I learned that it’s alright if you don’t know someone, just get to know them in a positive way.  Now, I feel very wonderful about the whole situation that took place.
